Anchor Bay released the 2010 crime thriller movie Kill the Irishman, starring Christopher Walken ($5 as Day), Val Kilmer (MacGruber) and Ray Stevenson (The Book of Eli), TV’s Rome), on Blu-ray and DVD on June 14, 2011.
Written and directed by Jonathan Hensleigh (The Punisher), the film tells the story of real-life Irish-American mobster Danny Greene (Stevenson) who was one of Cleveland’s top crime lords in the 1970s. Coming out of a tough Cleveland neighborhood to become an enforcer in the local Mob, Greene quickly turned the tables on a loan shark he worked for (Walken) and allied himself with gangster John Nardi (Vincent D’Onofrio, Men in Black).
He ultimately stopped taking orders from the Mafia to pursue his own power, surviving countless assassination attempts from the Mob and killing off anyone who went after him in retaliation. Greene’s infamous invincibility and notorious fearlessness eventually led to the collapse of Mafia syndicates across the U.S. and earned him the status of the man the Mob couldn’t kill.
Kill the Irishman, which also stars Linda Cardellini (TV’s ER) and Paul Sorvino (Goodfellas), received a limited release in theaters last month, where it grossed approximately $700,000.
The Blu-ray and DVD carry the list prices of $34.99 and $29.98, respectively.
Bonus features include the hour-long documentary Danny Greene: The Rise and Fall of the Irishman.
