Martin Lawrence (Death at a Funeral) puts on his dress again for another movie in his comedy franchise, Big Mommas Like Father Like Son, which arrived on DVD and Blu-ray on June 14, 2011, from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.
The sequel has Lawrence returning as FBI agent Malcolm Turner, who again goes undercover as a grandmother. This time, Big Momma gets a job as the Headmistress of the Atlanta Girls School for the Arts and Turner’s stepson Trent (Brandon T. Jackson, Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief) doubles as Big Momma’s grand-niece Charmaine, a student at the school. The duo must try to derail the attempts of the school’s security guard (Faizon Love, Couples Retreat).
Pulling in only $37.5 million when the PG-13 movie ran in theaters, Like Father Like Son was far less successful than its predecessors. The original Big Momma’s House grossed $117.6 million in 2000, and Big Momma’s House 2 brought in $70 million in 2006.
To bulk up the value on DVD and Blu-ray, Fox released the discs in Motherload Editions with plenty of extras, including an extended version of the film.
The DVD contains these special features:
- commentary
- gag reel
- deleted scenes.
The Blu-ray, a three-disc set, has these plus:
- “Big Momma’s: Bigger Busts Countdown”
- “Making the Music” featurette
- and music videos for “Baby You Know” and “Lyrical Miracle.”
The three-disc Blu-ray has the movie and extended version on Blu-ray and DVD, plus a downloadable digital copy of the fim.
The DVD is priced at $29.99 and Blu-ray at $39.99.
