If you’re a fan of John C. Reilly (Cyrus) comedies and love Ed Helms in The Office, you might want to check out Cedar Rapids, which arrived on DVD and Blu-ray on June 21, 2011, from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.
In the movie, Helms plays Tim Lippe, a naive small-town Midwesterner who finally gets to go to the big city — Cedar Rapids, Iowa — where he must save his company at a regional insurance convention. There, he’s seduced by a Nebraska insurance agent (Anne Heche, TV’s Hung) and in awe of his roommates, a straight-shooter (Isiah Whitlock Jr., TV’s The Wire) and an extrovert (Reilly). Sigourney Weaver (Avatar) and Rob Corddry (Hot Tub Time Machine) also are in the film.
Rated R, the comedy, which was directed by Youth in Revolt‘s Miguel Arteta, was released in a limited number of theaters, where it grossed $6.7 million, but the film will definitely get its biggest audience with this DVD and Blu-ray release.
Fox calls the DVD and Blu-ray the Cedar Rapids: Super Awesome Edition. Both formats include these special features:
- six deleted scenes: “Dinner With Macy,” “Song Dedication,” “Cart Ride,” “Fire Extinguisher Fight,” “Goodbye to Bree” and “Cabin Extras”
- a gag reel
- “Mike O’Malley: Urban Clogger” featuring the actor
- “Tweaking in the USA”
- “Wedding Belles: Crashing a Lesbian Wedding”
- Top Notch Commercial
The Blu-ray also has these exclusive bonuses:
- “Convention Connection” with six characters: Tim Lippe (Helms), Ronald Wilkes (Whitlock Jr.), Joan Ostrowski (Heche), Bill Krogstad (Stephen Root, TV’s NewsRadio), Orin Helgesson (Kurtwood Smith TV’s 24) and Bree (Alia Shawkat, TV’s Arrested Development)
- “Fox Movie Channel Presents: Direct Effect Miguel Arteta,” with the Cedar Rapids director
- BD-Live with the exclusive “Ed Helms: Mad Chopper Skills”
- and a downloadable digital copy of the movie.
The movie got some decent reviews, and judging by the trailer, it looks like it could be fun. Check it out:
