Remember Sleepers? The acclaimed 1996 drama film directed by Barry Levinson (Poliwood) and starring Brad Pitt (Seven), Kevin Bacon (Tremors) and Robert De Niro (Little Fockers) arrived on Blu-ray on Aug. 2, 2011, from Warner Home Video along with two other dramas, Sean Connery (Highlander) starrer The Name of the Rose and Copycat with Sigourney Weaver (Alien).
Sleepers is our favorite of the three movies. The film tells the disturbing story of a group of boys who, after pulling a prank, are sent to a detention center and brutalized by the guards. Ten years later, the boys are grownup and get their chance for revenge. Billy Crudup (Almost Famous), Minnie Driver (Barney’s Version), Jason Patric (The Losers) and Dustin Hoffman (All the President’s Men) also star in the R-rated film, which was nominated for an Oscar for Best Score.
The winner of two BAFTA awards, 1986 film The Name of Rose stars Connery and Christian Slater (True Romance). Based on the novel by Umberto Eco, the movie follows the investigation of a series of mysterious deaths in an isolated Benedictine Abbey.
And in 1995 thriller Copycat, Weaver plays a criminal profiler and psychologist who becomes entangled in the mind games of a copycat serial killer (William McNamara of The Ascent), but she has her own problems as a horrifying attack in her past left her an agoraphobic who’s confined to her apartment. Holly Hunter (Broadcast News), Dermot Mulroney (Flash of Genius) and Harry Connick Jr. (P.S. I Love You) are also in the cast.
