Director Catherine Hardwicke swapped vampires for fairy tales in the young romance film Red Riding Hood, which was released on DVD
Starring Amanda Seyfried (Letters to Juliet) as the iconic Red — or Valerie, in the movie — the film gives the original story a werewolf twist, with Seyfried living in a medieval village that is haunted by a wolf. When Seyfried’s sister is slain, werewolf hunter Gary Oldman (The Fifth Element) shows up to save the town no matter what. Meanwhile, Seyfried is being pulled between two men, the one she wants (Shiloh Fernandez, TV’s Jericho) and the one (Max Irons, Dorian Gray) her parents (Virginia Madsen of TV’s The Event and Billy Burke of Twilight: New Moon) approve of.
Julie Christie (Doctor Zhivago) and Lukas Haas (Inception) also star in the PG-13-rated film.
Debuting in theaters to some pretty bad reviews, the fairy tale horror film grossed only $37 million.
Warner kept the DVD light on special features, including only deleted scenes. The DVD
