The Count of Monte Cristo, the 2002 film adaptation of Alexander Dumas’s classic novel, arrived on Blu-ray for the first time on Sept. 13, 2011, from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment. The disc carries the list price of $26.50.
In the action-adventure movie, Jim Caviezel (The Passion of the Christ) stars as the courageous and guileless Edmond Dantes, who is betrayed by his best friend Fernand Montego (Guy Pearce, The King’s Speech) and wrongly imprisoned. Obsessed by thoughts of vengeance, Dantes miraculously escapes and transforms himself into the mysterious and wealthy Count of Monte Cristo. He soon insinuates himself into the French nobility and puts his cunning plan of reprisal into action.
Directed by Kevin Reynolds (Waterworld) and co-starring Richard Harris (The Field), Luis Guzman (Carlito’s Way) and Dagmara Dominczyk (Running With Scissors), the movie grossed $54 million at the U.S. box office in its wide theatrical release.
