New Release: The Beaver Blu-ray and DVD

The Beaver movie scene

Jodie Foster (l.) and Mel Gibson feel the power of The Beaver.

Summit Entertainment released the drama-comedy movie The Beaver, directed by Jodie Foster (Taxi Driver) and starring Mel Gibson (Lethal Weapon) and Foster, on Blu-ray and DVD on Aug. 23, 2011, for the list prices of $30.49 and $26.99, respectively.

The strange film revolves around Walter (Gibson), who used to be a happy and successful family man but has hit rock bottom. In his darkest hour, Walter finds a rather unusual savior that becomes a new means of communication: a beaver hand-puppet that acts as Walter’s voice and ultimately takes over his life in an attempt to change things for the better.

The Beaver also stars Anton Yelchin (Star Trek) and Jennifer Lawrence (X-Men: First Class).

Garnering a great deal of press when it opened — much of it owing to the endless controversy swirling around star Mel Gibson — The Beaver received a limited release in theaters in early May and has grossed approximately $1 million at the domestic box office.

Bonus features on the Blu-ray and DVD for the PG-13-rated movie include the following:

  • commentary by director/actor Jodie Foster
  • deleted scenes
  • Everything is Going to be OK making-of featurette
