Toy Story accomplished a lot when it launched in theaters in 1995: it gave animated movies a kick-start back into popularity, it paved the path for films made with computer-generated animation, and it made Pixar a household name overnight.
Each of the three of the family films in the franchise has its own Blu-ray 3D version, plus the Toy Story Trilogy Blu-ray 3D contains the whole series.
The Toy Story package is a five-disc Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD combo with a downloadable digital copy. Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3 are four-disc Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD combos, both with digital copies.
The Trilogy is only Blu-ray 3D, but these discs can play 2D high-definition Blu-ray as well, which is a standard for the Blu-ray 3D format. All the movies in the franchise were releases in a Blu-ray/DVD Toy Story Ultimate Toy Box Collection
As well as charming audiences in theaters — not to mention on DVD and Blu-ray over the years, all three movies got attention from the Academy Awards. The original film, about toys that come to life and must deal with their owner getting older, was nominated for three Oscars: Best Score, Best Original Song for Randy Newman’s “You’ve Got a Friend” and Best Screenplay. Toy Story 2 was nominated for Best Original Song for Newman’s “When She Loved Me.”
Toy Story 3 finally got the franchise two statues: Best Original Song for Newman’s “We Belong Together” and Best Animated Feature. The movie was also nominated for Best Sound Editing, Best Screenplay and Best Motion Picture.
All three films have a host of well-known voices in their cast: Tom Hanks (You’ve Got Mail), Tim Allen (TV’s Home Improvement), Wallace Shawn (Jack and the Beanstalk), John Ratzenberger (Cars 2), Joan Cusack (Mars Needs Moms), Kelsey Grammer (Middle Men), Don Rickles (Zookeeper) and Ned Beatty (Rango).
