A remake of the 1985 movie of the same name, 2011’s Fright Night stars Colin Farrell (Horrible Bosses) as the vampire who lives next door.
Ferrell’s identity is discovered by high school senior Charley Brewster (Anton Yelchin, Star Trek), who’s having fun running with the popular crowd and dating the most coveted girl in school, Amy (Imogen Poots, Jane Eyre). When their classmates start disappearing and Charley suspects his nice guy neighbor Jerry (Farrell), nobody believes him — of course — not even his mom (Toni Collette, TV’s United States of Tara).
Doctor Who‘s David Tennant also stars in the film, which was directed by Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl).
Despite the stars and the recent popularity of vampire movies, Fright Night didn’t score at the box office, grossing only $18 million in wide release in theaters. But the movie got decent reviews from critics. Film.com‘s William Goss said the film is “a remarkably confident remake that boasts its own pleasures more often than not.”
Sounds like it’s one to check out on disc.
Disney‘s three home entertainment version are packed with special features, as well as the downloads.
The DVD offers:
- unrated gag reel
- uncensored music video for Kid Cudi’s “No One Believes Me”
- extended and uncut “Squid Man”
The downloads come with all those plus:
- “Live in Las Vegas: An Interview With Peter Vincent,” Tennant’s character
- “The Official How to Make a Funny Vampire Movie Guide”
Both the Blu-ray versions swap out the Vincent interview for “Peter Vincent: Swim Inside My Mind,” have all the other bonuses as well as:
- “Frightful Facts & Terrifying Trivia”
- and five deleted scenes with introductions by director Gillepsie
The trailer looks appropriately creepy. Check it out:
