Mischa Barton (TV’s The O.C.) plays a young American living in Russia who falls in love with a Russian teenage girl in the 2011 thriller film You and I.

After meeting at a concert by the Russian pop duo t.A.T.u., Lana (Barton) and Jane (Shantel VanSanten, TV’s One Tree Hill) form an instant bond with one another. As the two begin to fall in the love, they are swept up in a glamorous lifestyle that is soon found to also be cruel and deadly. Desperate to remain together despite their environment pulling them apart, Lana and Jane must rediscover the bond they share to put their newly discovered world of danger behind them.

Also starring Anton Yelchin (Fright Night), You and I is  based on Russian politico Aleksey Mitrofanov and Anastasia Moiseeva’s t.A.T.u Come Back, a gimmicky 2006 novel that’s essentially a collection of text messages inspired by t.A.T.u.

Though the movie was completed a few years back, it only had its theatrical premiere in Russia and Kazakhstan in early 2011. It’s a DVD premiere in the U.S.

Our big question concerns You and I’s director Roland Joffe, who once upon a time directed such serious dramas as The Killing Fields (1984) and The Mission (1986). The last few years have seen Joffe helm such unspectacular genre stuff as Captivity (2007) and this latest one. So our question is … what happened?
