The epic WWII action-thriller film Age of Heroes was inspired by the true story of “James Bond” writer Ian Fleming’s creation of the Britain’s elite military team ’30 Commando Assault Unit.’
An inspiration to Britain’s modern day Special Air Service (SAS), 30 Commando was a new breed of special operations taskforce created by British Naval intelligence officer Fleming to carry out some of the most dangerous missions of the war.
Starring Sean Bean (TV’s Game of Thrones) and Danny Dyer (Dead Cert), the film follows the circumstances behind 30 Commando’s inception and the unit’s first highly classified smash-and-grab mission into occupied Norway to capture vital radar technology that will change the course of the war. Things don’t go all that smoothly in the Norway mission: When their escape route is uncovered, the commandos find themselves in a battle to reach the border against a vicious Nazi general (Christian Rubeck) and his deadly 5th Alpine Division. Outnumbered and exhausted, the men of the unit push their innate skills and hardcore training to the limits in order to survive.
Co-written and directed by Adrian Vitoria, Age of Heroes also stars Izabella Miko (Clash of the Titans) and James D’Arcy (An American Haunting) as Ian Fleming.
A British production, Age of Heroes played in theaters in the UK in 2011 but is premiering in the U.S. on DVD and Blu-ray.
The Blu-ray and DVD include the following bonus features:
- The History of 30AU documentary
