New TV comedy 2 Broke Girls averaged more than 11 million viewers weekly in its debut season, as well as earning the No. 1 spot for new series among adults 18 to 49 and No. 1 new comedy for all viewers. Not bad for a sitcom about two girls waiting tables in Brooklyn.
The TV show stars Kat Dennings (Daydream Nation) and Beth Behrs (American Pie Presents: The Book of Love) as the titular two broke girls, who are, respectively, street-smart and blue collar born and book smart and nouveau bankrupt. The unlikely roommates are working at the Brooklyn diner while saving the startup money they need to launch a cupcake business. Along the way, their saucy humor and blossoming friendship help them deal with relationship and fundraising issues.
Both the three-disc DVD and two-disc Blu-ray contain all 23 episodes of the first season, including the pilot and the cliff-hanging season ender.
Both also have two bonus features:
- featurette “2 Girls Going 4 Broke” with Dennings and Behrs talking about the pursuit of the American dream, their characters’ and their own
- alternate jokes.
Created by Michael Patrick King (TV’s Sex and the City) and comedian Whitney Cummings (TV’s Whitney), 2 Broke Girls also stars Garrett Morris (TV’s The Jamie Foxx Show), Matthew Moy (No Strings Attached) and Jonathan Kite.
