Much-loved drama movie The Perks of Being a Wallflower has its biggest audience on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download, and is one to check out.
Harry Potter‘s Emma Watson stars in the independent film as free-spirited Sam, who, along with her stepbrother Patrick (Ezra Miller, Every Day) are charismatic seniors in school. They take under their wing shy freshman Charlie (Logan Lerman, Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief) and shepherd him through new friendships, first love, burgeoning sexuality, wild parties, midnight screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and the quest for the perfect song.
Dylan McDermott (TV’s American Horror Story), Kate Walsh (Legion), Joan Cusack (Grosse Pointe Blank) and Paul Rudd (Our Idiot Brother) also star in the coming-of-age PG-13 movie, which grossed $15 million in a limited run in theaters.
And critics and moviegoers loved the romance film. Washington Post‘s Jen Chaney called the movie “a charmer.”
The Perks of Being a Wallflower is based on the novel by Stephen Chbosky, who also wrote the screenplay and directed the film. We expect to see more good things from him in the future.
Chbosky recorded two commentaries for the DVD and Blu-ray, one by himself and the other with the cast. Other extras are:
- “Best Summer Ever” featurette
- deleted scenes with optional audio commentary with Chbosky
- dailies.
