A bad guy with a heart of gold? That’s the subject of Disney’s family movie Wreck-It Ralph.
A contender for best animated film of the year, Wreck-It Ralph features the voice of John C. Reilly (Carnage) as the titular Ralph, the bad guy in his own popular videogame. But Ralph knows he’s much more and sets out on an adventure to prove that he’s really a hero with a heart of gold. Along the way, he teams up with some unlikely new friends, including misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voiced by Sarah Silverman, Peep World).
Jack McBrayer (The Campaign) voices Fix It Felix Jr., Jane Lynch (Rio) is the voice of Sgt. Calhoun and Mindy Kaling (No Strings Attached) voices Taffyta Muttonfudge. The movie is the first feature film directed by Rich Moore (TV’s The Simpsons), who also co-wrote the script.
Critics loved Wreck-It Ralph, helping the film gross a tidy $177 million when it was in theaters. Los Angeles Times‘ Betsy Sharkey wrote, “The movie’s subversive sensibility and old-school/new-school feel are a total kick.”
In a first for Disney, Wreck-It Ralph‘s home entertainment debut is on digital before disc, and all versions except the DVD have special features. Here’s the list:
- “Bit By Bit: Creating the Worlds of Wreck-It Ralph,” with a look at Game Central Station and the artists who brought Sugar Rush, Hero’s Duty and Fix It Felix Jr. to life
- alternate and deleted scenes
- videogame commercials for Fix It Felix Jr., Sugar Rush, Hero’s Duty and Fix It Felix Hammer
- animated short film “Paperman,” which played in theaters before Wreck-It Ralph and tells the story of a young man who sees the girl of his dreams in a skyscraper window across the street and must get creative to attract her attention.
The two-disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo pack and four-disc Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy Combo pack also have this exclusive extra:
- “DisneyIntermission: The Gamer’s Guide to Wreck-It Ralph,” with Chris Hardwick guiding viewers through 10 video segments about the many videogame references and other hidden surprises in the movie.
