The classic 1939 historical war epic Drums Along the Mohawk was directed by the great John Ford (The Searchers), marking the filmmaker’s first-ever color production.
The film tells the story of one young couple’s efforts to farm a frontier homestead just as the Revolutionary War breaks out. Gil (Henry Fonda, Once Upon a Time in the West) and Lana (Claudette Colbert, It Happened One Night) are forced to endure the terror of combined Tory/Indian attacks, watch in horror as they are burned out of their home, and suffer the slings and arrows of war, all while trying to become part of the Mohawk Valley pioneer community
Filled with drama and romance (in between the battles) and featuring stunning Oscar-nominated Technicolor cinematography by Ray Rennahan and Bert Glennon, Drums Along the Mohawk co-stars John Carradine, Eddie Collins and Edna May Oliver, who received the film’s other Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
The Twilight Time Blu-ray debut also includes Becoming John Ford, Nick Redman’s 2007 feature-length documentary about the long relationship between Ford (voiced by filmmaker Walter Hill) and Twentieth Century Fox production chief Darryl F. Zanuck (voiced by director Ron Shelton).
