The third movie in the science-fiction series, Riddick again stars Vin Diesel (Fast & Furious 6) in the titular role.
Diesel’s Riddick is still the most wanted man in the universe, and in this 2013 science fiction action film, he’s trapped on a sun-scorched planet and pursued by bounty hunters who are happy to capture Riddick alive or dead. Meanwhile, Riddick also has to survive savage alien creatures, hostile desert landscapes, monster storms, jet hogs and vast arrays of futuristic weaponry.
The R-rated movie also stars Karl Urban (Star Trek Into Darkness), Katee Sackhoff (TV’s Longmire), Jordi Molla (Colombiana), Bokeem Woodbine (Total Recall), WWE star Dave Bautista and two-time Grammy Award nominee Keri Lynn Hilson.
David Twohy (A Perfect Getaway) returned to pen and direct the film, after also performing screenwriting and helming duties for the first two, Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick.
Critics mostly liked Riddick, giving it 60% approval, according to Rotten Tomatoes, but the film took in $42 million at the box office, meaning it could still have a biiger audience on disc.
The Blu-ray/DVD Combo pack has an unrated Director’s Cut with an alternate ending. Both that and the DVD contain these extras:
- “Vin’s Riddick,” about Diesel and his passion for everything from the movie’s production and development to instense training
- “Meet the Mercs,” about the cast and characters of the film, as well as the weapons and clothing styles
- and motion comic prequel “Riddick: Blindsided,” which fills in the gap in the story from The Chronicles of Riddick to this movie.
The Blu-ray/DVD Combo pack adds:
- short film “The Twohy Touch,” with writer/director David Twohy going through the development of Riddick and the creative collaboration between him and Diesel
- “Riddickian Tech” with the filmmakers and effects team talking about the technology used to create the film’s science-fiction elements
- “The World of Riddick” with key members of the filmmaking team, including director Twohy, production designer Joseph C. Nemec III and director of photography David Eggby talking about their inspiration and influences
- and digital copy via UltraViolet.
Also available is Riddick: The Complete Collection, containing all three movies, plus The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury.
