Eihi Shiina chills before the violence begins in Tokyo Gore Police.

Media Blasters’ specialty label Tokyo Shock issued the 2008 Japanese cult movie Tokyo Gore Police on Blu-ray on April 19, 2011.

Set in the near future, Tokyo Gore Police tells of a mutated race of humanoid creatures known as “Engineers” that sprout bizarre weapons from any injury. The newly privatized Tokyo police force sends forth a special squad of officers known as “Engineer Hunters” to deal with the menace. Unlike the average police force, however, “Engineer Hunters” utilize violence, sadism and streetside executions to maintain law and order.

Directed by Yoshihiro Nishimura (Hell Driver), the science-fiction/horror/crime hybrid was initially seen in several film festivals in North America and received generally positive reviews, most of which pointed out that the production lived up to its “gory” title.

Tokyo Shock issued Tokyo Gore Police on DVD back in 2009 and it’s still available.

No bonus features are on the Blu-ray, which carries a list price of $16.98.
