One of Paul Schrader’s (Cat People) most personal films is the 1979 drama Hardcore, which not only references the seamy milieu of the pornographic film industry of Southern California that is its backdrop, but also the philosophical bent of its main character, a Michigan Calvinist father powerfully played by George C. Scott, who journeys into this dark subculture to find his missing runaway daughter.
Co-starring Peter Boyle (Taxi Driver) and Dick Sargent (Operation Petticoat), with jagged, propulsive music by the versatile Jack Nitzsche, Hardcore arrives from Twilight Time with an Isolated Score Track and an audio commentary by Cinema Retro scribes Eddy Friedfeld, Lee Pfeiffer and Paul Scrabo. A second audio commentary features Schrader himself leading viewers on his own personal, intellectual and spiritual journey making of the film.
As supplier Twilight Time prints up only 3,000 copies of each title, be sure to keep on the Twilight Time site or that of distributor Screen Archives for the July 27 prebook date!
